PART 2:

15 June 2024 Saturday 9am – 12pm  SUSS Blk C 5.14/15

We all wish to work with easy children. We want them to follow our plan, hear what we have to say, cooperate with our requests, help the day go smoothly our way.

What is your approach to discipline? Is it about teaching children how to behave, or controlling the children’s behaviour? If it’s about teaching, what exactly are we teaching?

This masterclass refines your toolkit for discipline situations in the classroom and in life. Gain insights and practical tips toward structure, cooperation, and conflict resolution. Become more proactive than reactive in difficult moments, staying in control of yourself and in charge of the children.

  • Ask new questions and build new partnerships

  • Navigate situations of conflict and developmental opposition

  • Find your assertive voice and language

  • Strengthen regulatory and relational strategies

Open to all SUSS students, alumni, and industry partners. As an SUSS Learning Prospectus workshop with Student Success Centre, you will receive a certificate of participation upon attendance.

Conversations with Kids

How to listen and talk with young children

Conversation with kids_watercolour.webp

22 June 2024 Saturday

9am – 4pm |  SUSS  Blk C 5.14/15

Young children can talk and can understand language, but can they have meaningful conversations? They sure can.

Conversation is a necessary ingredient for learning and thriving with others. Unfortunately, many lose touch with conversational skills, not because of shyness, but due to messages that shut down communication.

This is a masterclass in how to converse. Hone skills of tuning in, listening, and articulating thought. Enjoy and benefit daily from lively, thoughtful conversations!

  • Cultivate your craft of conversing

  • Learn and apply different listening techniques

  • Discover dialogues with all ages: infants, toddlers, preschoolers, youths, and adults

  • Develop new habits of communication

Open to all SUSS students, alumni, and industry partners. As an SUSS Learning Prospectus workshop with Student Success Centre, you will receive a certificate of participation upon attendance.

I Play Therefore I Am

I Play Therefore I Am

10am – 5pm |  SUSS  C 3.16

Children know the joy of play, but as we grow older, do we still savour the exuberance and benefits of playful activities?

Play invigorates, restores, enhances.. it even makes us more productive with any kind of work!

Step outside the pedagogies of play, "playful learning", "purposeful play" etc. If you work with children, knowing how to be playful makes us significantly better at what we do.

This masterclass is for you to connect with playfulness in a personal way. What kind of play appeals to you? What kind of player are you? Find out and figure out how you might enjoy more play in your own life!

  • Discover your play personality

  • Delight in the paradoxes and varieties of play

  • Appreciate what elevates and what interferes with play

  • Enjoy a game or two - it's play day!
